Story behind Hicorp and General Fonseka

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

The Hicorp website (www.hicorp.us) has confirmed that General Fonseka was aware of the arms bids as Chairman of the Tender Board about the arms transactions. However, it said that his decision to award the tenders to Hicorp, were not affected due to the relationship or ownership in the Company.

The website drew attention to certain allegations made in Parliament related to transactions with the Army. The Company clarified the issues related to the transactions. It said the Company followed proper procedures when bidding for tenders with the Sri Lankan Army, the Navy and the Air Force.

Danuna Tilakaratne, as President of Hicorp International and the British Borneo Defence said he was taking the full responsibility of all tenders bid for by them, namely partner companies, British Borneo Defense, Satpro Communications and Hitrone LC. He said they believed that these tenders were granted due to the lower bids they consistently offered to the Sri Lankan Forces.

Contradictory Statements.

“I Survived To Do My Duty By My Country” – General Sarath Fonseka

Q: Corruption is a key platform of your campaign but there have been allegations of corruption leveled against you… particularly concerning your son in law’s involvement with Hicorp.

A: These allegations are absolutely baseless. Hicorp Sri Lanka was a local company founded by some young Royalists, many of whom were known to my son.

However my son had no direct connection with the company and despite submitting tenders it never won any contracts. Hicorp of the USA was registered in Oaklahoma and my son was a point of contact for the company though he was not involved in founding it. The company needed a US address and Danuna’s was provided as a contact address, that was the extent of his involvement.

While that company did win a tender to supply security cameras to army headquarters — documents prove that this tender was awarded while I was recovering from the 2006 suicide attack. I was in hospital and played absolutely no part in awarding the tender.

These allegations are part of an empty smear campaign and government money is being paid through one of our embassies to the Asian Tribune to perpetuate these lies.

But all anyone needs to do is look at where we live and how we live to see that we have not been involved in any corruption. Then look at the people making the allegations – the government — look at their life styles. I think its clear who is involved in corruption.

Army contracts were handled by Lanka logistics headed by Gotabhaya Rajapakse etc. If something wrong they could have stopped this Hicorp contracts. Either two things would have happened. Hicorp must be the lowest bidders. In that case either side would have not done anything wrong except a favor for the country. Second thing could have happened was because of the connection to the army Commander they kept quite. Here both, defense secretary and SF are wrong.

People who called the General who is not capable of leading a Salvation Army now have become his strongest supporters. After 26 th of Jan Prince to will be doing the same as we all does now. This General is having some sort of an extra ordinary capabilities.

I also read elsewhere that a spokesman for ‘Hicorp’ said their web site has been hacked and it would be corrected soon.

There is talk within media circles that there could be some connection between the production of documents in Parliament on the 5th and at the cabinet meeting to link Gen. Fonseka to arms deals and hacking of the website.

The retired general is playing the part of " Ambalame Pina" as he carries the burden of blackend pots of ranil, mangala, Somawansa and hakeem. After the election is lost, he will merely be the Ambalame Pina for the rest of his life.

edited by admin : pls dont post any links to other web sites.

Whoever, wrote this statement on the website has a serious weakness in his english. Would someone like Danuna write this poor english. wouldn't he at least contact someone from UNP before publishing this comment. This gives us a very good idea as to what extent the government would go to sling mud at the General.

What makes sarath Fonseka unique in the political establishment of Sri Lanka is the claim that he is the " non partisan candidate". This leaves him enough room to kick the JVP in the back, in the unlikly event of his being elected the president. How would our red sahodarayas wince then? everybody in this country knows what his political affiliations are and the hidden agenda of resuscitating the LTTE.
