CID unit spies on supporters of Gen. Fonseka - JVP
The JVP has alleged the president has set up a special unit at the CID to spy on people supporting the common opposition's presidential candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka.
This unit is led by one Abeywardena who has been in the presidential security division for 12 years, JVP parliamentary group leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake told the media at the party headquarters in Pelawatte today (Dec. 28). The parliamentarian was commenting on the CID's arrest of the head of Patriotic National Movement Ven. Dambara Amila Thera on the previous day. The MP rejected the allegation against the monk that he had solicited money to send people for overseas employment. Ven. Amila Thera's arrest is a clear attempt to repress those who oppose the government, Mr. Dissanayake reiterated, and said such attempts should stop forthwith.
