Sri Lanka Police urge political parties to prevent election related violence
Sri Lanka Police urged the organizers of the political parties contesting the presidential elections to prevent poll related violence in the run up to the election in January.
The DIG Gamini Navaratne who is in charge of election activities said around 55 incidents of poll related complaints had been lodged during the past two days and 15 people had been arrested for violating the election laws. "We have advised organizers of each party to ensure prevention of such incidents. We also advised them to remove banners and cut-outs that were put up in violation of election law," he said. Police advise the party organizers to remove all the banners and cut-outs as most of the incidents involved removal of banners and cut-outs of rival parties. There were some attacks on election offices also, he said.| This article has been read 1681 times |
