UNF goes to court against the slashing of security
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said that the UNF has decided to file an FR petition against the slashing of security of former parliamentarians.
The IGP yesterday announced that the security provided to former opposition parliamentarians would be removed and the security provided to non cabinet and deputy ministers and several former governing party parliamentarians would remain the same. The IG said the security provided to former parliamentarians was removed following a directive by the Elections Commissioner.
The UNP Secretary said the matter would be discussed with the Elections Commissioner and would make known the objections of the opposition members over the IGP’s decision.
It is learnt that the IGP has even removed the special security provided to former parliamentarians Rauf Hakeem, Mano Ganeshan and Jayalath Jaywardena fowlloing a court directive. However, on a directive by Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa, the IGP has not removed the security provided to three former UNP parliamentarians.
